First day
You'd think that at some point I'd learn that my mind makes things ou to be much harder than they are. Today went decently well, some anxious moments, but overall good. On my way home I was reading Grey Dog by Eliott Gish, and this one line really nailed down what i will need to remind myself of going forward: "I had made it through the day, after all. That meant i could make it through those that followed."
I cannot go into too much specific details for patient confidentiality reasons (more like owner confidentiality, i doubt the pets care much), but I'll discuss some of the cases from today. In the future I may keep doing updates on cases daily to help myself remember or maybe i'll collect then all and do weekly post, we'll see how much energy i have.
Aside from usual vaccination visit we had one cat who had recently been diagnosed with diabetes. This is obviously a big thing for the owner and require a lot of compliance for the pet to have a good quality of life. The owner in this case seemed very on board with it, which made everyone happy to see. It was interesting to get to see the conversation from a recent diagnosis perspective, since ive seen blood glucose measuring before, but it was for owners who were more used to it.
The vet also noted that while losing weight can help a cat go in remission, it also often comes back later in life. This is something i would like to look into and read more about, i knew it could go in remission but i dont remember if i read the latter part somewhere before or if this was new information.
We also had a patient come in for a fecal transplant! Super cool (and yucky), cause i didn't know this was done with cats. They said it was a fairly new treatment option for small pets, about 3 years or so. However, the vet couldn't get it to work because the cat wasn't sedated enough, hopefully ill be part of the team that gets to work with this cat when it comes back to try again. This makes me sound like some poop freak.... Really the cat was just VERY cute and it was a very cool and interesting treatment to see.
I also met a real cute brittish shorthair kitten... super cute!
